Frank Sadvar: More than a deer issue

To the editor:

We all know we have a lot of deer in town, and unless something is done, we will have more.

But, this archery idea concerns me as an archery hunter.

OK now, we also know dogs and deer are natural enemies.

I have never seen a deer run after a dog unless a doe with fawns is threatened.

My real concern is these stupid cats running wild. Why is it not legal to shoot them? They are mostly wild, and I believe the town of Craig has a leash law.

It should be legal, as I want to protect my property.

Mr. Frank,

Cats occupy the same spot in our society as horses and dogs.

We are not supposed to eat horses, cats or dogs, however we can eat deer, squirrels, raccoons, fish and other animals. How someone came up with this ridiculous custom is bizar. Shooting a cat, horse or dog is a no no… regardless how annoying they might be and by the way they do not taste as good as deer or fish.

Merely out of curiosity, what exactly are these cats doing that make you feel they are a threat to your property?

Cats are nasty, they dig and deficate and urinate all over my yard, and kill the song birds that vist my yard.
It should be legal to shoot them on sight.
After they started to disappear, perhaps the uncaring owners that allow them to run loose will keep a closer eye on their nasty, dirty cats. If you can't keep your own animal in your own yard you should not be allowed to own that animal, or it should be legal for your nieghbors to deal with it any way they choose.

Something I forgot to add, these cat breed like rats and they are not being controlled.
Many of these cats are wild and have not been vacinated for rabies or anything else.
If there is an animal that needs to be eradicated it is these uncared for, worthless cats.

Agreed. Cats ARE a problem in Craig and Frank is probably tired of cleaning up after them and putting up with the males spraying their foul stench on everything. If your cat comes home with pink fur on it's butt, it's been in my yard. If you see a deer with a pink splotch on it's backside, it's been in my yard. Paintball guns are great for keeping your property cat, and even deer, free. It's non-lethal and water soluble so it washes off easily, the sting from one though has kept the cats wondering when the next one is coming. Hopefully they are learning which house to stay away from. The deer seem a little more stubborn so I may have to crank up the velocity a little bit. Luckily the deer don't come around near as much as the darned cats do. Before I get chastised for being cruel, I own a cat. She is fat and happy and lives indoors so as not to bother anyone else. If more cat owners would keep their pets indoors, or on a leash, we would not be contributing to this thread right now would we?
