Sports Briefs: Western Slope football schedule

The playoffs loom for football teams across the state, and the Western Slope is no exception.

Steamboat Springs (0-7 overall, 0-4 league) kicks off the football weekend early, with a game at 7 p.m. tonight in Palisade (6-1, 3-1).

At the top of the 3A division, Glenwood Springs (6-1, 4-0) hosts Eagle Valley (2-4, 1-3) on Friday night, while Rifle, (6-1, 4-0) striving to stay tied for first, heads to Moffat County (2-4,1-2).

Locally, Hayden (3-4, 2-1) licks their wounds from a 52-21 loss to Hotchkiss on Saturday and heads over to Meeker (5-2, 2-1). Elsewhere, Rangely (0-6, 0-3) hits the road for a game against the Lake County team (2-5-2, 0-3) of Leadville.

In Saturday action, the eight-man Soroco squad (5-2, 2-2) faces North Park (5-2, 3-1).

MCHS soccer to play final game today

The Moffat County High School boys varsity soccer team will finish the regular season today against Steamboat Springs at 3:30 p.m. at Loudy-Simpson Park, 500 S. Ranney St.

The game will be a determining factor in the Western Slope’s representation in the playoffs.

MCHS and Steamboat are tied with 6-3 records within the 4A division following Steamboat’s Tuesday victory against Eagle Valley. Overall, the Bulldogs have a higher win percentage with a 10-4 record, while the Sailors are right behind in the standings at 9-4-1.

In their last match-up in Steamboat, MCHS won, 5-1.

CMS basketball plays 1st game this weekend

The Craig Middle School boys basketball team begins the season with a game at 9 a.m. Saturday in Steamboat Springs.

The seventh- and eighth-grade teams began practicing last week.

Additionally, the teams will travel to Meeker on Tuesday afternoon and will host the Hayden teams Oct. 30.
