Today could be the last time this season that the Moffat County High School boys varsity soccer team step out onto a field.

The Bulldogs play the Steamboat Springs Sailors at 3:30 p.m. at Loudy-Simpson Park in a game that will determine which team will accompany Battle Mountain, the top team in the 4A Western Slope League, to the state playoffs.

While Battle Mountain is guaranteed a playoff position with a league record of 8-1, MCHS and Steamboat are tied in the league standings with a 6-3 record.

Both teams are coming off recent victories.

The Bulldogs defeated Palisade (0-8-1) on Saturday and the Sailors beat Eagle Valley (5-4) on Tuesday.

Both teams have high-scoring players.

Steamboat’s Enrique Lopez scored both goals in the 2-0 shutout of Eagle Valley. He has 13 goals this season.

Moffat County will counter with Alex Perez and Tracy Mendoza. In the 7-0 win against Palisade, Perez scored four goals and Mendoza one. They have 18 and 26 goals on the season, respectively.
