Potter: Yes on Amendment 62

To the editor:

One issue on the ballot is a matter of life and death.

It is Amendment 62, which states, “The term ‘person’ shall apply to every human being from the beginning of the biological development of that human being.”

The “personhood” of unborn babies makes us obligated to protect them, not kill them.

As an unstated added benefit, it will also protect the young girls and women who suffer psychological and emotional damage as a result of having an abortion.

It will also expand the beautiful possibility of adoption by couples who would like to have children, but are not able.

The passing of Amendment 62 will also end a lucrative industry for the people who perform abortions.

“Follow the money trail” if you want to know the main reason such a horrendous practice has been legalized.

If Colorado takes the lead by passing this amendment, it will have a “follow the leader” effect on other states.

The polls show this amendment has a 50/50 chance of passing. Let’s do our part to make it succeed.

It is a matter of life and death, and as voters, we are responsible for the outcome.

Pull your head out of the darkness of ignorance. You think abortion is cruel? What about the millions of unwanted children that are born everyday and end up being beaten, starved & overall neglected for their entire childhoods???? You obviously weren't born to a mother doing meth or parents that brutalized you, just because you are there. Thankfully I wasn't either, but I saw "the other side" just working for 6 short months at Social Services, and that was here in Craig. You have NO IDEA the horrors so many children live through everyday. Where is God in THAT??

Just something to think about. Making a choice like this seldom has anything to do with making money. It's usually the lack thereof. Add to that the rude commentary about the girl's morality.--and the "good for you" boys get from the "manly-man" club for "gettin' some." Add to that the harassment that comes when a girl gives her baby up for adoption. Add to that the lack of support--financial or emotional-- after a baby is born. (The child will hopefully live to adulthood; that's eighteen years--seventeen years and six months beyond the support most "supportive" organizations contribute.) Add to that the number of kids who end up in foster care because their parents don't know how to or refuse to parent. There's more, but you wouldn't get it anyway--but maybe you'll get this. I prefer that legislation stay out of my body and yours. I don't choose for you; you don't get to choose for me.

With each action you should consider the expected and possible outcomes. Affection and pleasure of the moment may create a form that grows into someone like the two participants. This creation then should be the responsibility of the two. This responsibility should be yours the rest of your lives. That certainly is something to consider!

There are many educational modes to teach these responsibilities. Please be come aware and use responsible judgement.

Is it just me, or do Republicans take this desperate measure every election to get more Replicans to the polls to vote for Republican candidates? I believe this issue has been debated, voted on and debated and voted on ad nauseum. There are too many big issues government SHOULD be working to address and that does not include those of morality. What a woman does with her body should be the result of her values and upbringing. Not anyone else's. Period. Terminating pregnancy has been an option for animals and humans since the beginning of time and has been used in cases of safety and survivial. In the days before chemical birth control, terminating pregancy was a choice some women made in cases where two babies would be born too close together and she didn't have the ability or wherewithall to care for both. Some mammal "reabsorb" their offspring if the colony is overcrowded, if there is illness, a lack of food resources or if the mother is in any other way unable to care for those offspring. Certainly that is a God-given ability? Overpopulation, addiction, illness and starvation are human conditions, too. Certainly humans are afforded the same options that God has afforded the animal kingdom, or are they sinners too?

Very well stated MoCo4life, I agree. Leave government out of issues like this. It is an individual decision.

I agree this is not a government issue The government should not control or pay for abortion. The woman has control of her body; terminating prenancy is her (and her partner's?) choice. Birth control by many approved methods can be used by the partners at their discretion.

I have seen the remorse of having had an abortion linger years later, but has no comparision to the remorse of an unwanted birth and effect upon that person through life. Not all unwanted births turn out this way, due to adoption or parent/s accepting the responsibility and care of the child throughout their lives.

It is that responsibility that comes with birth control, abortion, adoption, and child care throughout our lives.

Though were are animals we have the ability above animals to forsee our responsibilities and should act accordingly.

Rosemary suggests Amendment 62 will “expand the beautiful possibility of adoption”. I wonder if she and other supporters have contacted local adoption agencies to adopt unwanted babies born to alcoholic and drug addicted mothers, handicapped children with huge medical bills, mixed race babies, older children, sexually abused children, babies of rape victims carrying a rapist’s genes, or incest babies.

Vote no on 62!

Just murder everybody. Some of these statements are just mimics of crap heard on tv. You believe what you're told.."womans' right to her body crap".....

At least 30 or more churches in Craig. Everyone claiming to be christians. You're gonna tell me the Lord condons abortion? Everyone will face the Most High alone. What are you going to say? Oh, the gov. said it was ok. It's murder of the innocent and to think otherwise is deceiving yourselves.

As of January 2010 America has recorded over 50 million abortions. How many are enough?

Mystery Babylon, America......great will be your destruction. Go read the punishment of mystery babylon again in Revelations and see what we have to look forward to. Judgement will manifest in a matter of weeks.
