Moe: Please send comments

To the editor:

A lot of miners, business people, residents and civic leaders have worked hard to address Colorado House Bill 10-1365 and how it will negatively affect all of our lives here in the Yampa Valley, as well as the Western Slope.

The past two weeks I have printed and distributed through local businesses more than 4,000 post cards addressed to the Colorado Public Utilities Commission.

The cards state:

“Dear Commissioners,

As a concerned citizen of Moffat County, I cordially invite you to please visit our area, and see for yourselves how we successfully live and co-exist with our clean energy resources and our abundant natural wildlife.

Please come see for yourselves how the loss of our area coal jobs will impact our economy. Please understand that our high BTU, low sulphur coal — our clean coal — is the rock upon which our community thrives.

Respectfully,

A very concerned Moffat County resident.”

I also sent an 18-inch-by-24-inch card to the PUC board, stating the same thing, all in an effort to get their attention.

I have written letters to the editor of the Denver Post, have contacted Channel 9 News (NBC), Channel 7 News (ABC), Channel 4 News (CBS), and Channel 31 News (Fox), all in Denver, as well as Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glen Beck and Greta Van Susteren, all of Fox News, as well as MSNBC, CNN and CNBC shows.

These efforts have been made in order to shed light on H.B. 10-1365, how it will specifically affect us in Moffat County and in the Northwest Colorado, and to encourage the PUC to visit Craig, and to see for themselves what the impacts will be to our community. (Oh, and to see for themselves what wonderful clean air we have.)

To make this impact significant on the PUC, the state and national media, we need everyone in this valley to be a part of this campaign against H.B. 10-1365, the so called Clean Air, Clean Jobs Act.

If you have not already mailed your post card, please do so today. It‘s due Oct. 19.

Please, won’t you invest 28 cents in Moffat County’s future?

Kerry Moe
