— A one-vehicle wreck Saturday resulted in the death of a 16-year-old from Craig, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol.

Just before noon Saturday, a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Samuel Jesse Sheridan, 18, rolled on Moffat County Road 10 about 20 miles northwest of Maybell. The vehicle was heading east when it entered a curve to the right, skidded and then rotated clockwise and partly off the road, according to the release. It rotated twice more before rolling three-quarters, sliding and coming to rest on its right side in the road, according to the news release.

Russell Walsh, 16, of Craig was ejected. He and Sheridan were taken by ambulance to The Memorial Hospital in Craig. Sheridan sustained moderate injuries, and Walsh died from his injuries at the hospital, according to the release. Neither was wearing a seat belt, according to the CSP.

Neither drugs nor alcohol is thought to be a factor, but excessive speed is thought to have contributed to the wreck, the CSP stated in its release.

My heart is truly broken for Russell's family & the loss of Russell to Craig. Russell came up to me last spring while watching a track meet, in his character jeans & boots. He started talking to me & saying the most hysterical things making me instantly laugh. I went from having an average day to instantly being happy & touched that he remembered me from years prior when our sons played football together. I can't stand the thought of him being gone. Russell could have been any of our son's & I suffer terrible sadness with the family. You are in my thoughts & my prayers.

Sincerely,

Kerrie Clarke (Maury Mirante's mom)

My sympathy goes out to both families and the driver. These scenes after the accident and in the hospital are heart wrenching.

May there be emotional healing and understanding for all that suffered the loss. May there be forgiveness for all of those that may have felt guilt. May all drivers learn and exercise caution. God watch over all.

I never understand the losses we must survive in this life. Russell was a gift, a truly kind soul. Jesse and Travis, and their families, will have my healing thoughts with them.
