Sports Briefs: Western Slope football schedule

In Western Slope varsity football, scheduling between intra-league 3A teams continues.

Top-ranked Rifle (4-1 overall, 2-0 Western Slope League) takes on Steamboat Springs (0-5, 0-2) tonight. Elsewhere, leading contender Glenwood Springs (4-1, 2-0) hosts Moffat County (2-3,1-1) and Eagle Valley (2-2, 1-1) travels to Delta (3-2, 1-1).

In a Saturday morning game, Palisade (4-1, 1-1) readies for Battle Mountain (1-4, 0-3).

In local games, Rangely (0-5, 0-1) heads to Hayden (2-3, 1-0), while Meeker (4-1, 0-1) makes its way to Paonia (1-4, 0-1) today.

In eight-man action, Soroco (4-1, 1-1) hosts Gilpin County (0-5, 0-2) and up north, Baggs, Wyo., (5-0, 3-0) looks to continue its undefeated season against Hanna-Elk Mountain (4-1, 2-1).

CNCC slated to play Sunday soccer game

The Craig branch of Colorado Northwestern Community College will host a soccer game against the Rangely branch at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sawer Soccer Park on First Street.

The game is a rematch for the two teams. Last time, Craig beat Rangely, 8-1, in what was also its first competitive game.

All spectators are welcome to attend and are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
