“I’ve been here with Walgreens for two years. I love it. It’s a nice store to work for. It’s very family-oriented and very down-to-earth. I love it. And being a local, it’s very nice. We’ve had a lot more hunter traffic lately. We have been getting people in for holiday stuff. We’ve also had a lot of senior citizens come in because we offer the senior discount rate.

“We’re preparing for Christmas now — that and Black Friday. We’re planning for a big rush. In fact, we’ll be opening very early in the morning. I think I have to be here at 7 (a.m.). I’m not sure what kind of deals we’re going to have. Last year, we had some wireless games and stuff like that. This year, I know we have a Blu-ray DVD player coming in, but I don’t know how much it’s going to be selling for.

“I’m looking forward to the holidays greatly because I have a teenager at home and I just love the holidays. In fact, I’ve already decorated my house for Christmas. It’s always tremendous, I’ve been in retail for more than 10 years, and I’ve seen Christmas stuff come in before the end of August.

“I lived and worked in Grand Junction for 12 years, so it was interesting to see the market flow a lot different down there. I worked at Lowe’s in Grand Junction for three years, so coming to Walgreens, it’s very, very small, but I like it a lot better.

“I graduated high school here, left for awhile then came home. My son died three years ago in February. That’s what mainly made me come home. Plus my father lives here and he needs some care. My daughter, Tiffany, is a freshman in high school.

“I’m just having dinner with my dad (on Thanksgiving) because my father is 78 and doesn’t get out very much. We usually go spend time with him. I do have brothers and sisters around, but they have plans with other people, so I take care of Dad. Other than that, no traveling, no nothing. I can’t stand traveling in the winter.

“When I’m not at work, I’m usually out at my house, tending to our horses and all our animals. We have three horses, a little dog — he’s a Chihuahua-terrier, we think he’s a Jack Russell, but we can’t tell offhand. You can see the Jack Russell more than you can the Chihuahua. And then, we have two cats and a ferret. And plenty of deer. We live out in the country, so we see deer all the time. My dog thinks he’s big enough to attack them. He tries to go out and play with them, but they don’t stay. My dad has a dog, too, and it’s actually the brother to my dog.

“Ferrets are about the most exotic pets we’ve ever had. The most we’ve had is two at one time, but we had to separate them because one just didn’t like playing well with others. They’re quite fun because they can communicate in different ways. We had one that would always lick your feet. The one that we’ve got now, whenever you get her out of the cage, she’ll lick your arms. They can go anywhere if they want to, so you have to watch them.”
