— The public is invited to visit the hospital and enjoy light refreshments. A thank you gift will be provided for each family that attends.

Jennifer Riley, The Memorial Hospital’s chief of organizational excellence, said the hospital and its employees are ready to share an important milestone with community members.

“Tomorrow marks the one-year anniversary of the opening of the new facility, so to celebrate that we’re doing a couple of different activities here at the hospital,” Riley said.

A year ago, the hospital moved from 785 Russell St., which had served as the health care provider’s home since 1949, to a new building at 750 Hospital Loop Rd.

The new building was made possible by a $42.6 million bond issue voters approved in 2007.

TMH will commemorate the anniversary in several ways Friday.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., TMH employees will participate in a potluck luncheon.

At 3 p.m., the hospital will host a reception for board members, physicians, community supporters and donors.

Then, from 5 to 7 p.m., the hospital will host a community open house.

“We’ve invited the public to come up, have some snacks and see what we’ve done here,” Riley said. “Any time we get a chance to get new people up to our hospital, they’re always amazed at what a nice facility this is.”

Riley said refreshments and a thank you gift will be offered to open house visitors.

“For thank you gifts this year we put together a calendar,” she said. “It’s a calendar that features recipes from our Mountain Café. It also has important health tips, dates and important weeks.”

Riley said the hospital won’t offer tours today as it had during the facility’s grand opening. However, anyone interested in a hospital tour can sign up for one at a later date.

In the meantime, Riley said visitors will have the opportunity to meet TMH staff and physicians.

Regarding the luncheon, Riley said the event will give the hospital’s chief executive officer a chance to congratulate TMH employees.

“George (Rohrich) is going to talk to the staff to thank everybody for their hard work, because it has been hard work,” she said.

Riley said the work began two years ago.

“In the year leading up to moving, we had a huge transition plan to put into place and execute,” Riley said.

After the move, she said the staff had to fine tune the new space for maximum effectiveness.

“It’s just been an incredible year of change, and our employees have done a fantastic job of adapting and making this hospital operate smoothly, like it has been open for 30 years.”
