William Ronis: Easy answer to deer issue

To the editor:

What about a fence?

A simple solution to protecting your backyard from deer is to fence them out.

Through all the banter, I haven’t heard this solution. That is what the airport does to keep deer off the runway.

If you like the deer, keep the gate open. If you don’t like the deer, fence them out.

Why is killing OK? If the deer can’t get in your yard, they will move on.

Now here is a man with some sense. I see no problem expecting property owners to erect fences to solve this problem. When the deer can't get to the gardens flowers and bird feeders, they will start to look other places for food, like outside of town.

That is what I did. A 6 foot fence solved all of the problems with the deer eating my trees and also I no longer have to worry about a deer/dog confontation.... I never even considered eliminating the deer because I enjoy watching them over the top of my fence. I does break my heart though every time I hear the brakes skreeching out on the road and know that another deer has met it's demise at the hands of a driver behind the wheel of a vehicle....Brings up the idea behind the Wildlife Areas out on Highway 13 and fines doubled and what the thinking is behind that one. More cash for the Road Department???
