Katie Grobe, director of the Yampa Valley Pregnancy Center, said her organization has a simple mission.

“Pretty much what we do is love our moms,” Grobe said of the center’s clients.

However, the Pregnancy Center will soon ask for a little affection from the community during its 18th annual Chili Supper & Silent Auction, a fundraiser for the organization.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club of Craig, 1324 E. Victory Way. The cost is $6 per person, $10 per couple or $20 for a family of four.

Additional children in families are $2 each.

The event raised $3,500 a year, on average.

Grobe said the center provides material and emotional support to pregnant women in Northwest Colorado.

“We provide clothing, furniture, diapers and formula,” Grobe said. “We also hold classes on both pregnancy and child rearing … like how to deal with toddlers.”

Pregnancy Center clients are referred by doctors, the Moffat County Department of Social Services, previous clients and other community organizations, she said.

Grobe said the center sees an average of 40 to 45 clients every month during its short business hours.

“Considering we’re only open nine hours a week, we get a lot of traffic,” she said.

Grobe said this will be her first supper as the center’s director. However, she’s no stranger to the annual event.

Grobe’s mother, Julie Grobe, has been involved with the center since the late 1980s, and Katie has been accompanying her mother to the fundraisers since she was a teenager.

“I mopped the floor after each supper for years,” Grobe said.

The Pregnancy Center, 580 Green St., is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. For more information on the center, call 824-5204.
