Horizons in need of more volunteers
Horizons Specialized Services is seeking volunteers to serve as mentors to individuals with developmental disabilities in Moffat and Routt counties. Volunteers spend at least three hours per month with Horizons clients.
Activities include hiking, biking, bowling, swimming, fishing and walks, among others.

Donations needed for local crafters
A group of local crafters are trying to make items for area nursing homes and veterans, and are accepting donations of yarn, embroidery floss, small beads and/or pearls, fabric and batting material.

Registration underway for ‘Cast ‘n Blast’
The Northwest Colorado Outfitters Chapter, Colowyo Coal Company, Safari Club International and the Colorado Division of Wildlife will host a family event, “Cast ‘n Blast,” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 22 in the Axial Basin area between Meeker and Craig.
The free event is open to the public. It includes shotgun and rifle shooting, archery, bait fishing, and fly-fishing. Training is provided and no previous experience is needed.
The event includes a free lunch.
Pre-registration is required and space is limited. All equipment, including firearms and fishing equipment, are provided but families are allowed to bring their own fishing equipment, if desired.
Families are recommended to bring layers of clothing and sunscreen.
Participants 16 and older need to have a current fishing license.

Craig Clean-Up Days scheduled for weekend
The city of Craig’s solid waste department will accept used tires and appliances from city and county residents from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Craig City Park, as part of Craig Clean-Up Days.
Used tires and appliances will not be accepted from “commercial generators of these items,” according to a news release from the city.
Moffat County will be issuing vouchers for one free day at the county landfill that may be used any time throughout the year. For more information on the vouchers, call 824-9111.
Also being accepted this weekend are used auto/commercial batteries for recycling. Interstate Battery will collect the batteries during the same hours as Craig Clean-Up Days.
For every battery received, Interstate Battery will donate $5 to Relay for Life.

Meeting, open house Monday in Maybell
The Moffat County Libraries board is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Maybell branch, 202 Collom St. An open house of the newly-renovated Maybell branch will take place after the meeting.

Reduced pet adoption rates available now
Together with the Craig Animal Shelter, the Humane Society of Moffat County is offering reduced cost adoptions for shelter animals until Saturday.
Cats and dogs can be adopted for $60 during this period.
All adoptions are at the discretion of animal shelter staff.
