Scouts: We try to 'Leave No Trace'

To the editor:

This is in response to the letter from Diane Ackerman.

We are a Boy Scouts troop in Craig, and first of all, we would like to apologize for the actions of another troop in our community that left the picnic area a mess.

However, not all troops in town are disrespectful to their community and outdoor recreation areas.

We are strong supporters of the “Leave No Trace” policy that we are taught through scouting. This means when we leave a location we have visited, it is like we were never there.

While we realize this is not directed at our troop and it caused you aggravation, your letter reflects on all Boy Scouts within our community.

We would just like to point out that not all Boy Scouts troops in this area behave in this manner.

Once again, we are deeply apologetic for whatever inconvenience this might have caused your group.

While we don’t mean to be overcritical of your letter, we don’t want the community believing that all Boy Scouts are like this.

Thank you.
