Moffat County girls golf season starts today

The Moffat County High School girls varsity golf team will head outdoors at noon today when it competes at Bookcliff Golf Course in Grand Junction.

The team spent March 18 in Rifle, but otherwise has mostly practiced inside.

Coach Ann Marie Roberts said she can’t wait for her team to hit the links.

“This is going to be a good year,” she said. “I’m excited to get started.”

This year’s team is almost unchanged from last year’s team.

Two-time state qualifier Heather Nicholson returns, as do juniors Nike Cleverly and Callie Papoulas, and sophomore Sam Fox.

The team’s next scheduled meet is April 7 at Devil’s Thumb Golf Course in Delta, weather permitting.

This year, Yampa Valley Golf Course will host the May 10 and 11 girls regional golf tournament.
