Lloyd Powers: Why does Pinnacol have such a surplus?

To the editor:

I see where Pinnacol Assurance wants to give the state $374 million for full privatization to help the state in its budget crunch.

Most business owners in Colorado pay into this fund. The question is why do they have such a surplus? If they have that much surplus, maybe they could lower their rates or give the business owners a refund.

The cost of running a business is high enough as it is. If you have employees, you have to have it.

So help us out, Pinnacol, and maybe small business will be able to put more workers in Colorado to work. By the way, if you privatize, will rates go up or down?

Just asking.
