To the editor:
On March 13 and 14, the Craig AAU program hosted the Yampa Valley Classic basketball tournament.
Twenty-five teams consisting of boys and girls from the sixth, seventh and eighth grades competed over the weekend. Hosting this tournament would not have been possible without the help of the Craig community.
The AAU program would like to thank the Craig Chamber of Commerce and those restaurants, hotels and other businesses that so graciously hosted the 16 teams that traveled from out-of-town to participate in the tournament. The program would also like to thank the administration and personnel from Moffat County High School, Craig Middle School, Sandrock Elementary School and the Boys & Girls Club of Craig for allowing us to host the tournament at your facilities. Words cannot express the appreciation we have for your willingness to help set-up the gyms, open the facilities and make sure the lights were off at the end of the day.
The AAU program would like to thank the parents, siblings, and friends of the players for working the admission table at each location.
Also, your support for the players, as demonstrated by your attendance at the games, means a lot. Of course, there would be nothing to cheer about without the coaches.
The AAU program is forever grateful for the time and effort these coaches spend developing our players. This group of coaches, Brad King, Sara Linsacum, Amy Peck, Rich King, Jeff Simon, Robert Razzano, Mike Peters, Lee Fief, Chad Lawton, Derek Cleverly and Jeff Knoche, are a wonderful asset to the AAU program.
Finally, the AAU program expresses special thanks to Jim Loughran, Kevin Peck, Jim Duran and John Haddan. These individuals donated their time and vast basketball knowledge to assist with the organization and officiating of the tournament.
The program appreciates your generosity.
