Beard: Fair not fair at all
June 23, 2010
Well, it’s interesting living in Moffat County. It seems if you’re not a rancher or socialite, your interests are of no concern. In my mind, the definition of a fair was big boys and lads showing all their livestock, and they had challenges showing all their new expertise. And, they exchanged new methods for the farm.

June 23, 2010
Visitors to the Sand Wash Basin area north of Maybell may notice bait stations and other activity this summer and fall related to keeping the wild horse population in the area healthy, the Bureau of Land Management reported in a news release. The BLM and the Humane Society of the United States have partnered for an ongoing research project looking at the feasibility of reducing the reproductive rate in the wild horse herd in the Sand Wash Basin through the use of a vaccine. Two years ago, during a wild horse gather, 62 mares in Sand Wash were treated with a fertility control vaccine and released. This vaccine, called PZP, was projected to prevent pregnancy in the mares for two years.

June 23, 2010
I met the author of “By the Time You Read This, I’ll Be Dead,” Julie Anne Peters, last year at a book expo in Denver. We chatted about the book’s subject matter — suicide and how the “bullying” often pushes young adults to their end. This book has created a bit of controversy.
‘Get Him to the Greek’ a raucous romp across the globe
June 23, 2010
If the lead character of “Get Him to the Greek” embodies any ideal of modern music, it’s the near-immortality of rock stars, those from the United Kingdom in particular. As another character observes, whoever heard of a dead British rock star? Other than John Lennon, George Harrison, Keith Moon, Brian Jones, Sid Vicious… Well, nobody’s perfect.
