- Levi and Neisha Balleck, of Aurora, announce the birth of their daughter, Zuri Rae Balleck, on Friday, April 23, 2010. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. Paternal grandparents are Dennis and Shirley Balleck, of Craig. Maternal grandparents are Jim and Nita Abney, of Parker. Paternal great grandparents are Lex and Goldie Burton, of Craig. Maternal great grandparents are Bobbi Sampson and the late Lucky Sampson. Zuri was welcomed home by her 3-year-old brother, Ryan Joseph.
- Laurie Weaver and Ryan Manewal, of Oak Creek, announce the birth of their daughter, Georgia Pearl Manewal, at 8:34 a.m. June 12, 2010, at Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs. The baby weighed 4 pounds, 5 ounces and was 16 3/4 inches long. Grandparents are Carol Hinkle, of Oak Creek, and Dave and Helen Alford, of Trumansburg, N.Y. The baby was welcomed home by a sibling, Todd Manewal.
- Sammi and Casey Staman announce the birth of their daughter, Alexa Lynn Staman, at 3:37 p.m. June 12, 2010, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig. The baby weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces and was 19 3/4 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Scott and Rhonda Herold, of Baggs, Wyo. Paternal grandparents are Tyler Staman, of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Kathy Staman, of Baggs, Wyo. The baby was welcomed home by a big brother, Evann Staman.

- Large crowd turns out for annual Whittle the Wood festival in Craig

- At 1 p.m. Saturday, nine chainsaws roared to life in unison. Nine woodcarvers danced around their stumps as wood chips flew like confetti from the contact point, where machine meets nature and art comes into existence — in under an hour. The quick carve competition, a new event at the 11th Annual Whittle the Wood Rendezvous, was like a concentrated version of the four-day festival at Craig City Park.

- A car show is as much about those in attendance as the contestants and their cars, said Lane Laugesen, the best of show winner at Saturday’s 2010 Bear River Young Life & Colorado Cruisers Car & Motorcycle Show. As he packed up his 1938 Chevy Five-Window Coupe and shook the hand of the last admirer of his car, Laugesen, a New Castle resident, said he hoped that people were able to learn something about cars Saturday.

- Hands stretched into the air and catcalls rose from the crowd in front of the stage as a familiar riff drifted from the fingers of guitarist Buck Dharma. “Burnin’ for You,” which Blue Oyster Cult played near the top of their set Saturday at Craig City Park, got the entire crowd moving and shaking in the evening sun.
