Babcock named POY

Legacy High School’s Shelby Babcock has been named Colorado’s Gatorade softball player of the year.

It was the senior’s second consecutive player of the year award.

Babcock, a right-handed pitcher, went 22-0, with a 0.06 earned run average and 221 strikeouts in 127 innings in 2010, as Legacy finished 22-0-1 and claimed its third consecutive Class 5A title.

“Babcock is absolutely one of the best pitchers to have ever come out of the state,” said Tod Bunker, Arvada West coach, in a news release. “She throws harder than most kids, but she’s got good placement on her pitches, too.”

Babcock signed a letter of intent to player for the University of Arizona in the fall of 2010.
