Wagner: Graduates disrespectful

To the editor:

We recently drove from Greeley to Craig to attend the graduation of our niece from Moffat County High School.

Unfortunately, graduates, as well as many adults, disrupted the ceremony.

Beach balls, silly string, air horns and other miscellaneous noisemakers made it impossible to see or hear the speakers or choir.

The entire program was totally out of control and disrespectful to speakers, staff, friends and parents; a sad commentary on today’s youth.

You should try going to a sporting event. The students stand in the middle section toward the bottom of the bleachers and no one on either side of them can see what is going on beyond half court or the fifty yard line. My only conclusion is that the only one more ignorant than the students is the administrators and faculty. All you have to do is make the students section on the ends the way most schools that are run with half a brain do it then the students don't get in the way of the people that paid to see the game.

I have seen students walk right up and stand in front of elderly people who then have to move. When we were kids Wayne you got your hind end blistered. Teachers and administrators made sure that students at these types of functions didn't run all over parents and those who came to see the event.

Like you said CindyLou - sad commentary on today's youth, but the apples didn't fall far from the trees! I was at graduation also, and the parents were just as bad - if not worse - than the kids! The parents had the airhorns, the parents threw cans of silly string to kids, and the poppers. The parents clogged the aisles so badly that the graduates couldn't get through! Unfortunately, when the graduation ceremony begins, there is not a lot that can be done about unruly students, especially when their families and friends are egging them on.

"If your children are going to do right , then you need to do right by your children"! I agree that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Parents are the first and foremost leading examples for their children. They are the mirrors of their character and integrity!
