- FFA convention, rodeo finals bolstering Craig economy

- ith this week’s FFA State Convention and next week’s Colorado High School Rodeo finals providing an influx of new consumers to the area, Moffat County can expect to feel a financial boost this month, organizers said. Dan Thorn, FFA Foundation executive director, said FFA made initial estimates that the organization would contribute $350,000 to the local economy during the three-day event.

- Since he dropped out of Moffat County High School 12 years ago, Patrick Perkins has worked as a security guard, maintenance technician, at a lumberyard, as a pizza delivery guy and at Twentymile Coal Co. But, in 2008, Perkins found himself the victim of cutbacks at the mine. He was out of work in a country spiraling into an economic recession. He had no high school diploma and a wife and two kids at home.

- Police Capt. Joel Rae said it appears that 55-year-old Robert Cash shot his wife, 48-year-old Rhonda Cash, in the back of the neck at about 6:30 a.m. Friday and then turned the gun on himself. Rhonda Cash was flown out by air ambulance later in the day and is listed in critical condition.
