- The season for taking a cool float down the Yampa River in the summer heat, a favorite pastime for many Craig and Moffat County residents, could soon come to a close. That’s according to Ron Dellacroce, manager of the Yampa River State Park. He estimated that a section of the river many local residents use — from Yampa Valley Golf Course to South Beach — should be floatable for three more weeks. It is one of the deepest river sections in the region, he said.

- The Craig City Council took one of its last steps Tuesday in approving the 6.9-percent lodging tax ballot measure to present to city voters. But, the decision from the council wasn’t unanimous. The council approved, 5-1 on first reading, to place the 6.9-percent lodging tax ballot question and ordinance before Craig voters in the November election.

- When Idaho resident Phil Dawson, 59, set out on his 7,500-mile journey across the United States, he knew he would run into problems. What he didn’t expect was to be sidelined for a few weeks, Dawson said. Dawson’s trip is designed to raise money for the non-profit organization he founded, America Fundraisers Inc., an organization that assists families with medical expenses for children who need organ transplants. The trip brought him through Craig on Thursday.

- After a year of waiting, the Moffat County Commission is ready to submit two energy and mineral impact grant applications. At its regular meeting Tuesday, the commission approved, 3-0, two grant applications for roadwork improvements to Moffat County Road 107 and Ninth Street. The commission requested $613,680 for the County Road 107 improvements and $131,576.50 for Ninth Street improvement.
