The New York Times chief Washington correspondent David Sanger will be the first speaker this year in the Seminars at Steamboat series and will speak at 5 p.m. Thursday at Strings Music Pavilion.
No action by Craig City Council on political sign issue

The Craig City Council may not take action on a missing ordinance in the city’s land use code regulating political signs around the city. City attorney Kenny Wohl recommended by e-mail last week that the city council not draft an ordinance concerning the signs. Wohl’s recommendation stems from his recent investigation into other Colorado municipalities and court cases brought against them concerning political signs, he said.

After three days and three good rounds of golf, John Svoboda walked away a champion. “I played better than I ever have at a Cottonwood Classic,” Svoboda said. “I just played my own game.” Svoboda was the winner of the fourth flight, shooting a three-round combined score of 247, 12 strokes better than second place.

The term “dead or alive” applies to the job description of bounty hunters, but for the title character of “Jonah Hex,” replacing the “or” with an “and” seems more appropriate. Once a proud defender of the Confederacy, former soldier Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) no longer has an allegiance to the South. Or the Union, for that matter.
Craig to host nationally sanctioned BBQ event

The end of the summer will have a little extra flavor for Craig and Moffat County residents. Craig will play host to the Colorado State BBQ Championship from Aug. 26 to Aug. 28. Sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society and the Rocky Mountain BBQ Association, the competition will mark the first time such an event has ever taken place in Northwest Colorado.

Local man taken to hospital for burns

Craig Fire/Rescue responded to a report Monday afternoon of a man with burns to his face and body in the 500 block of School Street. Drew Balleck, a resident of the building the call was reported from, was taken to The Memorial Hospital for burn treatment after a crew of nine firefighters responded to the scene, Fire Chief Bill Johnston said.
