To the editor:
Along with the Samuel Havenga Jr. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4265, we thank those in the community who expressed support for Mike Ehredt and Project America Run that came through Craig last week.
He is running throughout America and placing a small American flag with the name of an American veteran every mile — for more than 4,400 miles — to honor soldiers who have lost their lives during military service in Iraq.
His dedication and patriotism should be an inspiration to us all.
A special thanks to Nicole Inglis and Shawn McHugh of the Craig Daily Press and Mike Fuller at KRAI radio station for their coverage of this monumental undertaking. Also, thanks go out to Larry and Mary Bea Neu at the VFW restaurant who provided meals at no cost to Ehredt and a group of his supporters.
VFW Post 4265 is proud to sponsor a flag that Ehredt will place on behalf of the community in honor of Chance Phelps, a former Craig resident, U.S. Marine and subject the movie “Taking Chance.”
He was killed in action in 2004 while serving proudly and courageously in Iraq.
May our great nation always remain the “Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave” because of Americans who are willing to serve and give their all for their country.
