Steps are being taken to ensure that all members know which types of tattoos or brands are appropriate and which are not.

In a new announcement, the service stated that anyone who wants to join the Marines and has more than four tattoos is subject to review.

Armed services meeting benchmarks

Each of the four armed services under the U.S. Department of Defense met or exceeded recruiting and accession goals for December 2009.

Among the active components, the Navy and Air Force met their goals. The Marine Corps and Army exceeded their goals, and the Army Guard was the only reserve component to fall short.

The Army reserve exceeded its goal, while the Air Force reserve and Navy reserve met their objectives.

Vets have a leg up on civilians for census jobs

The Census Bureau is taking applications for people to conduct the census this year.

Veterans interested can get a 5- or 10-point lead over civilians applying for the same job. The telephone number to call is 1-866-861-2010, or visit www.2010censusjobs.gov

Wages are paid plus mileage.

Apply for Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Applications are available for World War II veterans for the Honor Flight this May.

The flight to Washington, D.C., is free, and the veterans I have talked to said it is well worth it.

Also, if you would like to go as a caregiver, there is a fee, but it is nominal for the trip, food and lodging.

Donations can be made by organizations and individuals to defray costs of the flight.

Craig Telehealth Clinic offers on-site nursing

The Craig Community Telehealth Clinic offers U.S. veterans state-of-the-art technology as well as on-site nursing support and remote practitioner availability. The goal is to provide an extensive array of health care services to veterans in a setting that is accessible and professional. To appropriately plan and coordinate your visit, access to the clinic is by appointment only. The clinic cannot handle emergency needs. Flu shot walk-ins are still ongoing for veterans currently enrolled in the VAMC Healthcare system. Call 824-6721.

Tele-psych services now available to vets
