March 2 is the birthday of Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.
When he was 50 years old in 1954, he created his first and maybe most famous book, “The Cat in The Hat.”
A publisher challenged Dr. Seuss to use 250 of the most important words for children to learn. Dr. Seuss used 220 words in “The Cat in The Hat,” which was an instant success.
To celebrate this special children’s author, Downtown Books and The Print Shop invite all Moffat County elementary students, in kindergarten through fifth grade, to participate in Dr. Seuss’ birthday by creating their own special Dr. Seuss bookmark.
Students should submit their original artwork and words that reflect all the silly, funny and fun things they love about Dr. Seuss and his books (don’t trace over Dr. Seuss’ pictures; create your own).
The first-place winner will receive $25, the second-place winner will receive $15 and the third-place winner will receive $10 in Craig Spree Bucks.
Students may enter two times. Applications are available at Ridgeview, Sunset and East Elementary schools, at the Boys & Girls Club, Downtown Books and The Print Shop.
