MCHS boys fall to Steamboat, 49-39

With Steamboat Springs High School boys varsity basketball team reeling, the Moffat County High School boys varsity team was unable to capitalize Tuesday night. Playing in Steamboat, the Bulldogs trailed the Sailors, 24-20, at halftime.

After falling Tuesday, 45-34, to Steamboat Springs High School, the Moffat County High School girls varsity basketball team won’t have much time to recover. “It doesn’t get any easier this week,” MCHS coach Craig Mortensen said. “We have Rifle, who put it to Steamboat, this week.”

Staker family recovering after losing home in fire

A scorched safe, twisted pipes and a melted plastic dog kennel surround the remains of Devin and Susan Staker’s home. The Staker house, a log home near Moffat County Road 15, burned Jan. 16 after catching fire from an unknown source. The structure, rented to the Stakers by Lou Wyman, was destroyed in the blaze, as was everything inside.
Boys, girls basketball ready for Sailors

For the Moffat County High School girls varsity basketball team, one of their toughest weeks of the season will start in a familiar spot. Playing at 6 p.m. today, the Bulldogs (6-8 overall, 4-1 in Western Slope League play) will renew their rivalry with Steamboat Springs (10-4 overall, 5-1 in the WSL) in Steamboat.
