Shane Baker, of the Moffat County Road Department, operates a motor grader to remove ice near the curb along the side of School Street. The grader breaks ice free from the asphalt and is followed by a plow that piles snow ready for front-end loaders to remove.

This edition of Communities At Work gives a glimpse at some unsung people the Craig community relies on almost daily.

The Moffat County Road Department works to keep roads safe for driving and the Water Department makes sure the community’s water is running, two seemingly simple luxuries that, at times, can be complex.

These two departments came together Thursday to fix the slippery road in the 700 block of School Street and a leaking curb that was contributing to ice buildup. The water crew located the leak, dug down to it and made the necessary repairs while the road crew worked to clear ice off the street.

These are a few photos from the process.
