Speculation about the future of Intrawest and its North American ski resorts swirled Wednesday after ads published in several major newspapers announced a public auction of lenders’ financial stakes in the company. The auction, scheduled for Feb. 19, would be for indirect ownership of property and stakes in Intrawest resorts including Steamboat Ski Area and Whistler Blackcomb, according to a Bloomberg report published late Wednesday.

Saturday’s snowmobile Poker Run offers a unique family sporting event in a relaxed environment, said Rob Albert, vice president of the Northwest Colorado Snowmobile Club and Poker Run coordinator. The ninth annual Poker Run begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Freeman Reservoir trailhead.

What started as a comfortable seven point lead, Moffat County High School Bulldogs couldn’t stay comfortable enough for Rangely High School. Playing Tuesday at the MCHS gymnasium, the Rangely High School boys varsity basketball team appeared to finally put away the pesky junior varsity Bulldogs with 30 seconds left in regulation.
Council for Children and Families presents its quarterly report to commission

The Northwest Colorado Council for Children and Families presented its quarterly report to the Moffat County Commission at its Tuesday meeting. The organization, which is dedicated to strengthening childhood education within schools, families and other outlets, provided commissioners Tom Mathers and Audrey Danner with an overview of its activities in recent months, as outlined by representative Barbara West.

Karen Sakran said she’s never had a lot of extra money to give to relief efforts, so she does one thing to help: bake. When a devastating earthquake struck Jan. 12 near Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Sakran thought nothing of the distance between the city of Craig and the Caribbean island when planning a bake sale to benefit disaster victims.

A short-handed Moffat Cou­nty High School girls varsity swimming team placed 15th out of 21 teams at the competitive Jeffco Invite on Jan. 16. Coach Anita Reynolds said because of the limited number of girls — MCHS had only nine swimmers competing — she had to shuffle her lineup for the relays.

For a year, the Aberle family lived and breathed Haitian life, from eating traditional meals outside in the lush greenery of the Caribbean island to attending church in one of the quaint, open-air buildings. Craig residents Cammie and Sam Aberle and their two children attended Haitian weddings and learned and spoke the Creole language while they lived in a small town in northern Haiti as missionaries.

It’s a debate that’s surfaced several times in Moffat County and one that has been decided upon by local voters. That is, whether to impose term limits on our elected officials. Still, in an election year in which the political landscape of our community and state could change dramatically, the topic was raised as a point of debate during Monday’s Editorial Board meeting.

The Hayden School District is scheduled to unveil the first step in a process to trim more than $300,000 from the 2010-11 budget when the School Board meets tonight.
