With less than five seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, the Delta High School boys varsity basketball team was clinging to a slim, two-point advantage against Moffat County High School.

After getting the ball to mid-court near the sideline, Moffat County’s Zach Raftopoulos was able to get a 3-point shot off as the buzzer sounded.

The ball ripped through the net.

Unfortunately for Raftopoulos and the Bulldogs, his foot was out-of-bounds, and the basket was waved off.

Final score: Delta 54, Moffat County 52.

Still, MCHS (3-10 overall, 1-3 in the Western Slope League) was boosted by Raftopoulos’ strong performance.

The junior guard broke out against the Panthers (2-6 overall, 1-3 in WSL), scoring 15 points off five 3-pointers.

Jordan Wilson again was solid for Moffat County, scoring 14 points while Dylon Camilletti added 10 points and Brian Ivy added 8.

For the Panthers, Austin Watson and Eli Baier each had 14 points, and Philip Decker added 7.

The team also fell Friday night to Palisade, 69-38.

Up next for the Bulldogs will be a Friday home game against Glenwood Springs (8-5, 4-0 in WSL).
