Despite losing Friday, 69-38, to Palisade High School, Moffat County High School boys varsity coach Steve Maneotis is still excited about what his team can do.

“We are on a tough learning curve right now,” he said. “Sooner or later, they will figure it out, and I’m excited to see where that will take us.”

The Bulldogs, now 3-9 overall, 1-2 in the Western Slope League, were coming off a road loss to Grand Junction High School.

On Friday, Moffat County played with more fire against Palisade (5-6 overall, 2-1 in WSL play).

“There was definitely a better effort,” Maneotis said. “The shots just were not falling. Our offense needs to find a flow.”

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs in blue, Palisade’s shots were falling.

Although Moffat County’s defense was able to reign in Palisade’s offense at times, Palisade had too many weapons on the floor on the their home court, Maneotis said.

“It was definitely a team effort and a team loss,” he said. “I could go down and point out one moment where each player had a big play, but there were other times when they needed help.”

On the offensive end, Moffat County senior Jordan Wilson continued his strong play for the Bulldogs.

“He was an offensive spark for us in the beginning of the game,” Maneotis said. “Our senior captain once again worked hard on offense for us.”

Moffat County will take what it needs from the loss, Maneotis said, but the team will be ready to play Delta at 5:30 p.m. today.

“Win or loss, this one is over,” he said. “Tomorrow is a new day. We’ll tie up our shoes, believe in what we do and go fight. Hopefully, we will come out of this weekend and even our record at 2-2.”
