The Moffat County commissioners would like to see clearer signs that explain to truck drivers there is a road bypass around Craig, and they should use it.

Linda DeRose, road and bridge department manager, raised the issue for a brief impromptu discussion at the end of the commission’s regular meeting Tuesday.

She said Colorado Depart­ment of Transportation officials have said they can’t change the signage now on the roads until the county sends a letter asking the state to make the bypass a designated truck route.

After that happens, the state will take down the current signs and install new ones.

“Right now, there’s a sign that says ‘Highway 13’ and it points to town,” Commissioner Tom Gray said. “There’s probably a lot of trucks that are going through town, because they’re taking Highway 13 to Meeker or wherever, and they don’t want to or need to.”

DeRose said she will draft a letter to the state and bring it back to the commissioners for their approval.

The commission also ap­­proved, 3-0, waiving the bid process for the treasurer’s computer equipment and maintenance contract.

The county approved signing a three-year contract with Texas-based Affiliated Computer Services for a total of $167,320.

The county also has the option of requesting ACS compile annual assessor’s office information for an additional cost of $1,750 each year.

Treasurer Robert Razzano said Texas-based Affiliated Computer Services provides the best software for his office, and he didn’t want to re-bid the project after working with ACS for the past three years.

ACS requires a minimum three-year contract for its services, which includes providing new computer equipment such as servers, desktops and a scanner, as well as maintenance and tech support.
