I recently was preparing a sermon on the God of all comfort.
As I was praying about what I would say, God spoke to my heart and said, “Write me a letter about the comfort you have received from me.”
As I started to write the letter, tears ran down my face as I realized what God’s true comfort has been in my life.
I think of the many times I’ve looked for His comfort not realizing that it has always been there.
I have shared this letter with many people since, and some have said I was writing their letter. I pray that this letter will bless you and give you something to look forward to in the New Year, knowing that you will not start the New Year alone, but with a God who always will comfort you.
II Corinthians 1:3: Blessed be God even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort. 4. Whom comforteth us in all our tribulations, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
My letter is below.
Dear Father God,
I’m writing you to say thank you for the many times you have comforted me.
When I am concerned for our children and grandchildren and I can’t be there with them, I know that you can take care and comfort them for me.
The days that I am ill, or I just don’t feel very well, can be the hardest for me at times, but then you reach down from heaven and give me the comfort that I need.
When I see my husband leave the house for work, you give me such comfort knowing that you have your protective hand upon him and will bring him home safely to me.
As each day approaches not knowing what that day may bring, I am comforted by your word that all things will be well no matter what the day brings.
When I have made a wrong decision in my life, you come along and give me comfort that even my wrong choices will work out, because with you all things are possible, and I know it will be alright in the end.
You have taught me so much and I still have much to learn from you.
Sometimes, I will listen, and sometimes my stubborn attitude will get in the way, but each time I know that you will lean down from heaven, give me a gentle nudge, and once again your comforting arms will lead me in the right direction.
I love the way you don’t criticize me, or put me down.
There’s truly no other love like yours, as you have given me life, family, friends and a reason to go on each and every day; as the tribulation becomes harder, your comfort becomes stronger, and I know someday when I see your glorious face and all the glory about you, I will understand why things were the way they were.
I will nod my head in agreement with you and walk unto your comforting arms.
All my Love to you, Father.
Your daughter, Linda
Happy New Year’s to everyone, and may God bless each and every one of you.
