Craig Briefs: DOW hosts youth ice fishing event

The Colorado Division of Wildlife will host a youth ice fishing event from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the Little Rascals Pond, 800 W. First St.

All children are welcome. Any youths 16 and older must have a current fishing license. Fishing poles, bait, lures, other ice fishing equipment and hot chocolate will be provided.

Participants need to bring warm layers of clothing, gloves and hats. Participants also can bring their own equipment.

American Legion bingo is tonight

American Legion Post 62 is scheduled to host bingo games beginning at 6:15 p.m. today at the Elks Lodge, 43 W. Victory Way. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Presentation today features CCC camps

The Preserving the Last Frontier organization will host its monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. today in the second-floor conference room at Sunset Meadows I, 633 Ledford St.

Dean Visintainer will present a program about the Civilian Conservation Corp camps that were in Moffat County.

Car Care Clinic is being offered today

A Love INC Car Care Clinic for single mothers, seniors and people who are disabled takes place from 8 a.m. to noon today at Cook Chevrolet, 1776 W. Victory Way. Volunteers will check each participant’s vehicle bumper to bumper for free.

This is a small group project of members of The Journey at First Baptist Church. An appointment is necessary for the clinic. Call Love INC at 826-4400 to schedule an appointment.

UMWA local chapter will meet Sunday

The United Mine Workers Association Local 1799 is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Center of Craig, 601 Yampa Ave. For more information, call Fran Lux at 824-4134.

Teacher of the Year nominations sought

The Craig Daily Press is seeking nominations for its 2010 Teacher of the Year.

This is the fifth year the Daily Press will honor an area teacher for his or her commitment to students and for encouraging them to think outside the box.

Past recipients are Amy Pottinger, Rosie Crosthwaite, Sylvia Duncan and Deb Frazier.

The deadline to submit entries is 5 p.m. April 30.
