Gatorade names state soccer player of the year

The Gatorade Corporation, in collaboration with ESPN Rise, named Broomfield High School’s Cole Chapleski its 2009-10 Gatorade Colorado Boys Soccer Player of the Year.

Chapleski also is a finalist for Gatorade’s National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award.

The senior midfielder/forward recorded 21 goals and 17 assists during the fall soccer season, leading the Broomfield Eagles (18-1) to the Class 4A state semifinals.

Chapleski, who has been named as a 4A first-team member three times, also was named The Denver Post Player of the Year and the Colorado High School Soccer Coaches Association Class 4A Player of the Year.

In his high school career, Chapleski netted 65 goals with 50 assists.

He also has maintained a 3.71 grade-point average and signed a letter of intent to continue his soccer career in the fall at the University of Denver.

“Cole Chapleski’s a phenomenal player,” said Mike Goyden, head coach of rival Liberty High School in a news release. “He’s just a force to be reckoned with. He’s a great player, has a great attitude and is a dominant force because of his size.”
