To the editor:
It is not a sin for a husband and a wife to love each other, but God says in Levitcus 18:22, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is abomination.”
He didn’t make an Adam and Steve; he made Adam and Eve.
Where are the rules for which of these old laws from the Bible to follow and which not to. Levitcus crazy laws
The OT is full of crazy laws, which modern Christians have no intention of following... unless it suits their purposes. They're happy to quote Lev. when they want to denounce someone for being gay, but they don't want to have to stone their children for talking back.
Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19)
Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19)
Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)
Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9) Have you ever done that?
If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10) This would cut down on the number of divorces.
'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.(Leviticus. 19:27)
I recall cheating on more than one book report in my younger years. In my self-inflicted panick, I'd skim through, reading the beginning and the end, and skimming small parts of each chapter. I also remember sitting in class during the book discussion with my eyes lowered, hoping the teacher wouldn't call on me, as I had little idea what the book was about. The more you read the Bible, the more you will learn and the more it will all come together and make perfect sense.
jamcolo: Excellent post! Your comments are along the line of saintoliver's in a different thread, and I appreciate so much the time that you have taken to jot down these great examples.
There are some other strange things that I recall from the Old Testament, and which Orthodox Jews today still follow to a "T" although much of the history has been lost, and the FDA regulations have obviated the need for most of the old dietary rules.
A couple of examples that come to mind concern pregnant women having to bury their cut toenails in the ground, and a prohibition (for both Jews and Muslims) against eating dairy and fish within 6 hours of each other. That means that a tuna sandwich and a glass of milk cannot be consumed at the same meal, and that a tuna sandwich cannot be followed by a chocolate candy bar for dessert.
I wonder if Potter, lawspecialist, daybyday, and other lemmings follow all of these outdated regulations. It is more likely that they simply "pick and choose"..... and they "choose" to ostracize gays and lesbians for no valid reason.
I was so impressed with jamcolo's post that I neglected to write the following to Kyla.
Kyla: I know that you have been told this before, but GROW UP. What you wrote in your Letter to the Editor is nothing more than 13-year-olds say to each other after school while they wait for the bus. Grow up.
What Kyla says is very mild in contrast to what most teen-age boys say about gays and lesbians ~ and as they "grow up" not much will change.
Anita' needs to grow up to the reality that gays and lesbians have always been ~ and always will be ~ ostracized.
