Craig With only one race remaining until the Feb. 12 state swim meet, the Moffat County High School girls varsity swim team is trying to add to its state-bound roster.
The team will try to cut down on its times when it swims Friday at the League Championships in Grand Junction.
“We will be swimming for the first time ever at Mesa State,” coach Meghan Francone said. “This will be our first time seeing this water, and I hear it is fast.
“I’m excited because our medley relay is extremely close, so hopefully the excitement and fast water will be just what we need to put us over, or put us under the time.”
Eryn Leonard (100-meter butterfly) and Genna Bradley (diving) have both qualified for state.
The 200-meter medley relay team of Hannah Kirk, Tasha Romney, Leonard and Mary Penner finished the Jan. 29 Delta meet with a time of 2:08.25, which is just three seconds off the qualifying time.
“We’re so close,” Francone said. “We’ll really be pushing this weekend. It’s an important meet. This week in practice will be polishing what we have.”
It wasn’t just the relay team that impressed in Delta, Francone said.
“The girls did extremely well last weekend,” she said.
