Funeral arrangements have been announced for a Craig man who died Tuesday morning.
A service for Justin Dean Bliss, 34, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose. Following the service, Bliss will be buried in the Olathe Cemetery in Olathe.
Bliss grew up in Montrose before he moved to Craig at age 5.
Early Tuesday morning, Bliss was walking east towards Craig on the northern shoulder of U.S. Highway 40.
He was struck about 5:15 a.m. by a semi-trailer heading west toward Utah with a wide-load.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, part of the trailer’s load was hanging over the shoulder where Bliss was walking, and struck the pedestrian.
Bliss was transported to The Memorial Hospital in Craig and pronounced dead at 5:37 a.m., the state patrol reported
Weather, drugs, and alcohol were all ruled out as contributing factors to the crash, the state patrol also reported.
The driver of the truck, Craig resident Nicholas Anthony Peroulis, was issued a summons for careless driving causing death, a misdemeanor.
Peroulis was the only person inside the semi-trailer at the time of the accident. He was not injured.
The accident happened near mile marker 89, near Craig city limits.

Question of the week
News this week showed snowpack in the Yampa River basin has reached 94 percent of median for the date. Do you think Moffat County is out of the woods as far as drought concerns?

My condolences go out to the Bliss family. A tragic way to loose a loved one. I hope that is case will be investigated to the fullest and the driver gets what he deserves and not what he can get away with due to who he is. Careless driving what a joke.

Indeed - “careless driving what a joke”. Either the paper has done a very poor job of reporting here, or the CSP has been over-zealous in their citations (again). I, too, hope this case is investigated to the fullest, and I hope to God Peroulis doesn't rely on the local CSP investigator to do it. If so, he will get screwed big time. People of Moffat County - learn to hire a private investigator in these cases, and do it quickly! Your CSP is so incredibly corrupt.
Ruralmom, shame on you. What the heck does who he is have to do with the facts? Silly woman.
