Andy Bockelman: ‘Expendables’ an indispensable action flick
August 26, 2010
Remember the days when action heroes were big, dumb brutes who were always easy to cheer for as they doled out their brand of justice? One of the stars of “The Expendables” certainly did, so he made his movie accordingly. When government agencies need someone who can do a dangerous job fast and efficiently, they call The Expendables, a group of soldiers for hire who perform every task as if it were their last, because in their line of work, it very well may be.

Cathy Hamilton: The Boomer Busker
August 26, 2010
I want to be a busker. Those zany street performers really have it made, don’t they? No deadlines. No office politics. No budget cuts. Just put on a clean costume, show up for work and do something amazing. Ah, but there’s the rub. What could I do that would amaze, awe and attract large amounts of pocket change from the crowds? I have no special talents. At least, none that could be considered busk-able.

Annie’s Mailbox: Woman can’t forgive sister’s betrayal
August 26, 2010
Dear Annie: I have three sisters, but the one who was my best friend in the whole world was “Michele.” Nine years ago, I found Michele and my husband of 19 years in bed together. They both said, “It’s not what you think,” but really, Annie, they were both naked in the bed. There was no mistaking what they were doing. I lost both my sister and my husband in one day, and I haven’t spoken to either of them since. My ex-husband moved out of state, but I cannot look at Michele without feeling betrayed.
