Tax to appear before voters in November at 6.9 percent

A committee of residents developed the ordinance and ballot question over the last several months. The committee is also proposing two entities manage the lodging tax money.

Editorial: Defining a destination
August 25, 2010
With two successful tourist events in the rearview mirror, and hopefully a third on the horizon, Craig and Moffat County has been a busy place this summer, and one fortunate to have such activities. The Moffat County Fair recently wrapped up its 92nd year, and judging by the performance of youths, feedback from community members, and the quality of projects and animals entered, this was another year of achievement for participants and organizers. But, that’s not the only event that’s drawing praise.

Stoffle: The people’s choice
August 25, 2010
To the editor: I have watched with interest the political process unfold the last five months. I voted Aug. 10 for the candidates of my choice. I was gratified that my vote and the votes of the majority of citizens mattered, and Robert Razzano won the primary election. I am now disappointed that someone in the minority has decided to go against the majority and not uphold the voter’s decision. I always thought the will of the majority decided elections, not the discontent of the minority.

Senior Spotlight for Aug. 25
August 25, 2010
August is on its way out. Boy, what a month it has been for me. There has been something going on every weekend. Picnics, anniversaries, fair, birthdays, etc. Oh, I musn’t forget yard sales. The weather also made a difference, as usual. But, all in all, everything is going by so fast. For instance, as I was going into another section at City Market one day, a gentleman was waiting to go into an isle by somewhere I was. As I got close to him, he said I didn’t put his name in the paper for his birthday.
Annie’s Mailbox: She thinks sister should pay to stay
August 25, 2010
Dear Annie: My 81-year-old mother passed away several months ago. One of her final wishes was that my older sister and I get along. Sis inherited Mom’s house, but she lives five hours away and didn’t want it, so I purchased the house from the estate. I have a sentimental attachment to it, since my father built the place and that’s where we grew up. I go there on my days off to do maintenance and upkeep.
Horoscope for Aug. 25
August 25, 2010
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) — It would be best if neither you nor your mate react in a way that would stir things up, just to get what you want should a disagreement arise. If you can’t remain civil, don’t speak until your slow burn is gone. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23) — Be particularly careful not to disrupt a situation that is presently running smoothly. If you’re the one who disassembles the mechanism, you’ll have to take the fall. SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 22) — Take care that you don’t come off as being too loud or too strong in a social situation, regardless of how much something annoys you. Friends will respond better to consultation than to rudeness.
