August 7, 2010

To the editor:

As the important August primary quickly approaches, I wanted to say a word about your candidate for Moffat County treasurer, Elaine Sullivan.

As county clerk in El Paso County (Colorado Springs) for the last eight years, it has been my pleasure to know and work with many other county clerks, and in that experience, there is none finer than Elaine.

The offices of county clerk and county treasurer require a person with a proven record of public service to perform. Elaine is such a person. The county treasurer’s role is to preserve the time-honored and effective processes of that office.

That person must maintain the primary objective of the county’s investment program, which is the safety on the invested funds. That person must also ensure the liquidity of those funds for the timely payment of county obligations.

Fiscal restraint and personal responsibility are the primary qualities required. For so many years, Elaine Sullivan has shown the citizens of Moffat County that she possesses those qualities and more. I believe the citizens of Moffat County know that even better than I.

Elaine has the work ethic, knowledge and public service experience to serve you well as your next county treasurer and I will be honored to continue to work with her for the next four years as we both serve in the role of county treasurer in our respective communities.

Simply put, Elaine Sullivan is a winner.

Please be sure to participate in your primary election Tuesday.

Thanks for lock removal

To the editor:

I would like to thank the Moffat County Commission — Tom Mathers, Audry Danner, and Tom Gray — for their prompt response to my request to have the lock removed from the gate at the Moffat County Fairgrounds.

Our family now has safe, easy horseback access to the arena.

Thank you.

Vote for Tony St. John

To the editor:

I would like to invite the residents of Moffat County to vote for my very good friend for Moffat County Commission, Tony St. John.

Tony has been a friend of the family for 12 years. In that 12 years, I have come to know him as being full of integrity, caring, truthfulness, honesty, and loyalty. Tony is a very giving individual who wants the best for his fellow man.

He does the best that he can to help anyone in need. He has proven that many times with my family and other people I know.

You can count on Tony to make the best decisions possible for Moffat County. He will stand and make his voice heard at the county and state level. When Tony says he will go and knock on the governor’s door in Denver to be heard, you can believe he will.

Moffat County is a land of plenty and with its’ natural resources, a lot of residents depend on those resources for their livelihood.

Tony will stand up for those jobs and fight to keep them for Moffat County.

When you vote on Aug. 10, remember to vote for Tony St. John, District 2 county commissioner candidate.

Thank you.

Danner a real pro

To the editor:

In the past 12 years, we have had many opportunities to work with Audrey Danner, both professionally and personally.

Our observations are that Audrey is very professional, thorough, thoughtful, courteous, respectful, and diligent in her research and efforts to understand issues before making decisions while working tirelessly on many boards and committees in Craig and Moffat County.

Moffat County is very important to Audrey as evidenced by the work she has done for our communities over many years, including the operation of a family business, involvement with the organization of the Craig Babysitting Co-op and Parents and Friends of Moffat County High School. She has also been involved with St. Michael Youth Group, the Moffat County School District Parent Advisory Committee, and she was a past chair of United Way.

All of these demonstrate a long history of selfless commitment to Moffat County.

Audrey’s tenure and leadership as the Executive Director of Yampa Valley Partners for 13 years earned her the respect of numerous people, multiple community governments and many organizations up and down the Yampa Valley. Her work in the initial stages of many valley-wide projects continues to provide lasting benefits to all of us.

Two notable projects she worked on — the development and installation of high-speed telecommunications infrastructure and Cultural Heritage Tourism — continue to provide economic benefits and luxuries we all enjoy.

The hardworking employees of Moffat County deserve a commissioner like Audrey Danner and we are very proud to have Audrey represent Moffat County.

We support her in her efforts to be re-elected as Moffat County commissioner.

Please remember to vote on Tuesday.

Sullivan for treasurer

To the editor:

I normally don’t take the time to endorse a political candidate. This election is a little different and I would like to ask the voters of Moffat County to vote for Elaine Sullivan for county treasurer.

Mrs. Sullivan was a great county clerk and won’t miss a beat as treasurer.

Keep up the great work, Elaine.
