I’ll be out of town visiting family this weekend, but for those of you sticking around, there are a few things to keep you occupied.
■ Moffat County High School prom is this weekend.
Feel free to pull out your tux. Of course, please don’t plan to attend unless you’re a teenager.
■ Serendipity Coffee Shop hosts Open Mic Night on Friday.
Show up at 6:30 p.m. if you’re interested in performing or 7 p.m. if you want to sip coffee and have a listen.
Drop by 576 Yampa Ave. to check it out.
■ History buff? Al Shepherd will talk about his family, Moffat County pioneers, during the Preserving the Last Frontier meeting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Meadows I, 633 Ledford St.
Feel free to stop in and hear his story.
■ The Page Turners book club meets this weekend to discuss “Flush,” by Carl Hiaasen.
Club members are open to anyone joining them. So if you’re interested, head to Downtown Books, 543 Yampa Ave., at 3 p.m. Saturday.
■ The Northwest Colorado Homeschool Association’s speech and drama club, “Heavenly Hollywood,” presents, “The Fairest Flower of the South,” at 7 p.m. today and Friday at Craig Christian Church, 960 W. Victory Way.
It’s $3 for individuals, $2 for seniors or $12 for a family of four or more.
■ The Sports Page Bar in the Holiday Inn of Craig, 300 S. Colorado Highway. 13, features the Jay Ketchem Band starting at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
■ West Theatre is showing “The Bounty Hunter” and “The Back-up Plan,” which, perhaps predictably, look like good flicks to me.
■ This last item does not fit in the entertainment compartment, but is of personal meaning to me. And since this is my column (and I do pretty much whatever I want), I’ll include it.
Next week, Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide offers Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training free of charge of anyone who’s interested in learning how to identify and help depressed and suicidal people.
The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Moffat County Public Safety Center, 800 W. First St. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided at no cost.
Please be there if you can. Call Ronna Autrey at 875-2941 to sign up.
