Craig Fire/Rescue responded to a small fire Monday morning at Tri-State Generation and Transmission’s Craig Station.
No one was injured in the fire, but seven employees underwent a respiratory check as a precaution; no further medical treatment was needed, Fire Chief Bill Johnston said.
Three engines were dispatched to Tri-State about 2:20 a.m., and firefighters extinguished the fire about 40 minutes later.
The fire did not cause any power outages.
The fire started when coal dust combusted near out-of-service equipment undergoing routine maintenance and inspection, Tri State communications manager Jim Van Someren said.
“We are going to continue with the maintenance on that (piece of equipment) and investigate further into what may have happened,” he said.
