Fifteen votes cast in Dinosaur election

Town electing mayor, four council members

As of 1:15 p.m., approximately 15 Dinosaur residents have turned out to cast their votes for mayor and four town council seats, Dinosaur town clerk Tamara Long said.

Mayoral candidate L.D. Smith is running uncontested and is seeking to replace Freda Powell, who did not seek an additional term.

Powell was first elected in 2006, receiving 74 of 78 votes.

Candidates for the four council seats are Jerry Jeffrey, Richard Blakley and write-ins Benny Lujan, Wendall Lawrence and Tony Cortez.

Polls close at 7 p.m. today.
