Teresa Stoffle: Drivers, please slow down

To the editor:

People really need to slow down in residential areas.

On Friday, a vehicle hit our pet cat and left him lying in the street for the children on the bus to see.

If the driver had been driving the speed limit, they would have been able to stop. What if a child had run into the street? Drivers need to slow down.

So many of the neighbors will miss Jeb's morning visits, as well as all the children who loved him.

Thank you.

Hello Teresa; Had your cat been on your own property, where it is supposed to be, and not out roaming the streets, where it is NOT supposed to be. Your cat would be alive today. Do not blame other people for your mistakes. Keep your pets on your property please!

Ok als I have definetly come to the conclusion that you need to live somewhere far away from people. From your comments on other articles you have very little if anything positive to say. I agree that people should keep their pets on their own property. I too have a few neighbors that let their cats roam free and am very tired of finding them in my yard. But that does not give you the right to leave such negative comments on anything and everything. Everyone is intitled to their own opinions yes but it does not mean we have to hear all of yours.

Teresa,

Sorry for your loss, However, Many of your neighbors might also miss old Jeb's morning visits and the rotten , deposits in the flower garden and sweet, fowl smell that followed Jeb wherever he made those deposit.

JAHM: Sorry for your loss. But, I disagree. Cats are very independent creatures they come and they go as they want to. My wife has a cat, one that we got from a rescue organization in Grand Junction. This cat was supposed to be a house cat. But to me that's cruel and unusal punishment, keeping a natural hunter penned up 24/7. It slipped out one day Now it comes home to use the facilities in the garage, eat and visit it's mistress and be petted and loved. It's shots are current and it's neutered and licensed, but it's barely a house cat any more. I deal with it because I love my wife, but one of these days I know I'll have to deal with the smashed cat syndrome, because people insist on driving 45 in a 20

I totally understand slipknot! for my other cats that go out I have a littler box outside for them which they use! I agree with not keeping them locked up in the house but at the same time I try my hardest to make sure that my cats that do stray off our property do not use other peoples yards to do their thing! so im trying real hard and yes with those ones that do stray its something that I have to accept that I might lose one to a car hitting them, but this one I lost was hard. she was very scared of the road most of the time she was in the backyard hiding under the deck or in the front hiding under the deck or garden this one I know never went in the road she even heard us start up one of the cars she would freak! and want inside asap if she was under the front deck or run into the back yard under the deck. until she was pushed to the point of having to to get this damn cat our of our yard! so it just realy stinks that the one cat I had that I never worried about straying and getting hit was the one that got hit! so I understand where you are coming from and my husband is the same way he knows its going to happen its just when. I just wish people would slow down on this road on 3rd street. Thank you for your input! :) and thank you for being so kinda and thank you for you guys also trying to help with the cats around craig using other peoples yards to do their thing! wish more people would at least do the most they can to keep them from doing that stuff like your family and mine.

What about our pets that stay in the yards? I had the same thing happen to me teresa. I had a cat that never EVER left my yard she was to affraid to leave UNTIL someone else's cat or a stray kept coming into our yard and bullying her and my other cat that go outside. Come evening I kept calling her and she would not come which was not like her. She always was in the back yard or front yard in our gardens. So low and behold my husband goes out to find her and see's her laying in the street dead.! I freaked! My one cat that never stray's out of our yard was the one that was hit by someone going TO fast down 3rd street. Had it not been for that darn stray coming into our yard all day and bullying her and that darn driver going TO FAST she would still be here with me today. I konw this is what happend because I had to chase the cat off my lawn 3 times that day as my other cat was starting to stray into the road to chase it off. I know we are having a problem with the stray and house cats roaming right now and I know the HS is trying to solve the problem but at the same time PLEASE PEOPLE SLOW DOWN ALSO! next time it could be a child that comes running out into the street instead of a cat or a dog or a deer.

And to the driver that Hit my cat! Least you could have done was moved her off the road so that everyone including kids and adults walking did not have to see her spread across the road. But like I said in my above comment you must have been in to much of a hurry to try and stop or care about moving her after you hit her!.

Teresa and JAHM, I am sorry for your losses. I agree that people are driving too fast in our town. I won't let my grandson even play in the front yard because of the risk of them running out in the street after a ball and being hit by a car that is going 40-50 mph from the corner stop sign to in front of my house a block away. It is absolutely insane the way people drive in front of my house.

As far as pets go, I don't have pets and I don't appreciate pet owners who let their animals roam outside. I have far too many deposits in my yard both in the front and the back. I feel that if people are going to own pets, they should be responsible enough to keep them where they belong. JAHM in your case, I feel sorry for you that your cat died because of another irresponsible pet owner.

To ALS- I agree with you totally. To rebelgirl--you're somewhat hypocritical telling ALS this: "But that does not give you the right to leave such negative comments on anything and everything. Everyone is intitled to their own opinions yes but it does not mean we have to hear all of yours". Your comment to ALS was negative so if you don't want to read his/her comment whether it be negative or positive then you don't have to read it and what gives you the right to tell somebody how to voice their own opinion? And who is "we" in reference to your comment? Hopefully you are speaking for yourself?

what it comes down to is people need to slow down! I really think that the city should put stop signs or speed bumps down 3rd st. ITS CRAZY how fast people are traveling on this road! SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!! I can be honest I have been one of those people going a bit fast and it took a speeding ticket for me to realize I need to slow down and now after having children im more aware as well of my speed when I drive and also others!. So im not saying im perfect when it comes to going the speed in places but I sure do try after that ticket I got. Next time it could be a lot worse than just a ticket! All these kids that do soccer and football and other sports down here at woodberry its scary at times! kids just come running out after a ball and don't pay any attention to any cars coming! so people either need to be more responsible drivers or the city needs to start putting speed bumps and stop signs in areas where people tend to speed in residental areas.

JAHM,

Are you sure your cat was hit by a car ?

If you saw the car, why did you not report the incident. There are people that will shoot a cat , on site, then toss it into the road.

The danger might not be speeding cars, there might actually be a cat shooter out there.

JAHM 5 years, 3 months ago

Yes she was hit by a car she was smashed in the road. there was no way that she was shot! My husband was the one who had to go remove her off the road. I had him look her over to make sure it was her, and that she was hit, He found nothing else on her that would indicate that someone did something else to her. LIKE I said she NEVER left our yard EVER she was to freaked out by the cars on the road. UNTIL that stray cat started coming around that day and attacking her and my other cat in my front yard. That is when she finally left the yard to chase stray off and defend her territory.

hah...hah....hahcheeeeww! is all i have to say about cats, sniff sniff.

JAHM 5 years, 3 months ago

well you know what irishbrat why don't you go take your smart a comments somewhere else. some people are actually on here to talk serious and don't want to listen to people like you who just come on here to make silly smart a remarks. How do you think your comment might make the person who wrote the article feel? that her and her family's love for that animal is a joke? must make you feel real good possibly making someone else feel like that.

0

irishbrat 5 years, 3 months ago

Are you the comment police JAHM? You say what you want, everybody else says what they want and I will also say what I want. I could have said much, much worse things about cats. I will say as I please whether you like it or not, I don't remember signing up for your permission? It's a FORUM, that's what they are here for, don't like it-don't read it. The whining about what others have to say is getting old-my point exactly in my first post regarding what ALS said. If the person that wrote the article does not want people to comment on their article, good or bad then they shouldn't publish it in a public newspaper. That was their choice and saying as I please is mine. I don't read half this sh*t anymore because of all the whining and crying about who said what about whatever article.

0

JAHM 5 years, 3 months ago

No I am not the comment police but any NORMAL PERSON WITH SOME RESPECT FOR OTHERS would not get on here and make smart a comments about someones loss!!! Wether it be a person, cat, rat, dog ect ect............And as you said if you don't like it don't read it. If you don't read half the "sht" anymore on here because of all the whining and crying about who said what about whatever artical than do us all a favor and take a permanent HIKE! You have'nt taken one yet so something is telling me that your "you don't read half the sht on here anymore" comment was a little bit of BS and you actually enjoy getting involved in drama or CREATING it. Yes this is a forum for people to discuss ongoing issues and share point of views and their opinions but Im pretty sure this was NOT set up for people to just come on and bash and tease and make a laughing joke out of other people and the people who wrote the article. So all im asking is please show these people a little respect! its aparent your not a cat lover, but im sure your a strong lover of something else and would be upset and hurt if someone made a mockery out of it or joked and teased you about it am I right? So maybe next time someone is on here expressing their loss of a loved one either animal or human maybe you could try to be a bit more respectful or just do what you said in your above comment and skip the article all together.

Oh how do I apologize to the almighty forum cop JAHM? I think I will stay awhile and be a smart a$$ just to annoy you and break your forum rules. And by the way, all I was stating was that cats make me sneeze, how does the almighty know I don't have a cat?? That's right, you don't. I didn't say anything derogatory towards the author of the article or about her beloved deceased pet cat. And I said I don't read HALF the sht on here because of all the whining, half is different than ALL of it. So if my sneeze comment offended anybody else in the Craig JAHM Press Forum; then I apologize that cats make me sneeze and that I stated as such. I do however believe that the comment from Greystone was more derogatory than mine, maybe you missed that one or maybe it was you were too busy talking about your own cat. I don't know but from now on I will have my posts edited and pre-approved before submission so as to not create drama for you. I deeply and sincerely apologize for my smart a* tendencies.

Irishbrat-hey gal-your Irish is showing. JAHM-there are more nasty comments than that by irish-don't worry yourself about them. This forum is so all can state their opinion. I don't like cats, but I hate to see any animal run over on the road. It's very fortunate that a child hasn't been hit and killed. Please people-slow down. If you're going to be late getting to where ever you are going, remember: It's better to say you're sorry for being late rather than saying you're sorry for killing a child.

0

irishbrat 5 years, 3 months ago

You're right Granny, this was about fast drivers and it got off topic on cats and my a$$. I agree people need to slow down as the driver is the one responsible for what ever it is in the road but on the other hand I think people should be more aware of not only their pets but also their children. I almost hit a girl about 4 or 5 behind safeway the other day that was sitting on a skateboard being pulled with a rope behind a girl on a bike. Had it not been for the girl on the bike looking backwards and down, I would not have seen the girl on the skateboard in the middle of the street. I drive a 3/4 ton diesel pickup and I know had I not seen that little girl; she would not be here. What if I had been a more careless driver or going faster? I'm sure the two girls live in the apartments behind the mall but where was the parent? Kids are kids and they do stupid things-once again it is the parent or animal owner in Teresa's case that should know where their pets and/or children are.

Yes your right this is about going to fast and people do need to slow down. and I do understand that other people say rude stuff, and I know what you were doing irishbrat. All im saying is it would be nice to see people be a little more respectful EVERYONE not just you! I konw people have the right to their own opinion im aware of that!, but jeeze I think your comment and some other peoples comments cross the line sometimes. wether your just trying to be fun, rude, or just state that your allergic to cats or whatever. It comes down to just being more respectful of people! yes you have your opinion and we all want to hear what everyones opinons are but is it that hard to try to do it in an mature adult way? instead of sounding like an immature "i dont give a beep" way? im not trying to police anyone im just saying if your gonna dish out comments like that don't be suprised if people lash back at you! ANYWAY yes it would be great if people would slow down, and I think granny hit the nail on the head! if your going to be late its easier to just say your sorry for being late than sorry for killing your child, cat, dog.

irishbrat ,

Thank you for noticing my derogatory comment about cats.

Cat people are a special class of people.

When cat people have an inside cat they take on a special cat aroma that can cause a normal person to become ill and commence sneezing. Some of my distant friends are cat people.

I also sympathize with your contempt for cats. Drivers will sometimes target a cat in the road so a dead cat in the road may not be the result of speeding.

The neighborhood where Jeb was hit people do drive too fast. They don't worry about being caught as there is hardly ever a sheriff's deputy driving through. We used to get deputy's driving through all the time now we might see one two or three times a week. There are numerous small children in the neighborhood and I would hate to see one of them get hit by the idiots that seem to think they can drive however fast they want...

If you aren't going to use a cat to eradicate the vermin in and around your barn or farmstead then there is absolutely no good use for a cat. They will crawl amongst you when you sleep and steal your soul. Watch your children around your cats and don't let them in the room with them when they are sleeping. !!!!!The only good cat is a dead one!!!!! and according to ALS it needs to be dead if you don't keep it on your property.

0

lonelyone 5 years, 2 months ago

oh dentedfender, where do you come up with this stuff? A cat will steal your soul!! thats too funny!! sounds to me like you and als need to go live in a bubble and take your little dogs with you....oh wait. als will shoot them too cuz they are in his space!

0

als362 5 years, 2 months ago

To slipknot and JAHM: If your cat comes on my property, it may not get back to yours. I DO NOT want yours or anyone elses cat in my yard! Period! Keep your cats at home or risk their lose. I will do so without hesitation!

To dentedfender: The last 2 lines of your last comment are exactly correct!
