Moffat County does well with livestock at state fair
Moffat County youths fared well at this year's Colorado State Fair in Pueblo. Pictured above are, clockwise from left, Andrea Maneotis, Karissa Maneotis, Darren McLaughlin and Dustin McLaughlin. Karissa was named grand champion in market goat and market goat showmanship. Darren won grand champion in market lamb.

The results are in from the Colorado State Fair livestock show, which took place Aug. 28 through Sept. 7 in Pueblo.
Moffat County exhibitors brought home an impressive number of awards in market beef, goat, lamb and swine entries.
Darren McLaughlin exhibited the grand champion lamb at the state fair for the second year in a row.
Aardvark, Darren's lamb, was a black face, light heavyweight that weighed 140 pounds. The Sam Brown Family bought the lamb during the state fair Junior Livestock Sale for $10,000.
Darren received several awards for the champion honor, including a belt buckle (donated by CLA), a hanging show box (from Moorman Show Tec.), a trophy (from Colorado State University) and a banner (from the Colorado State Fair).
Darren is the son of Willis and Kelly McLaughlin.
Karissa Maneotis, daughter of Nick and Karen Maneotis, showed the grand champion goat at the state fair. It sold to TIC Canyon Valley Electric during the Junior Livestock Sale.
Karissa also was the champion goat showman in the senior division (ages 16 to 18) during the fair.
As a showmanship champion, Karissa received a $1,000 scholarship to Northeastern Junior College and a belt buckle, donated by Greeley Elevator.
For her champion goat placing, she received a belt buckle (donated by the Colorado Classic Show Wethers Sale Group), a hanging show box (from ADM Alliance Nutrition), and a banner and duffle bag (from Colorado State Fair).
Jerica DeLong, daughter of Jerry and Phyllis DeLong, won reserve champion in junior division lamb showmanship.
Congratulations to all of the Moffat County exhibitors. You all have worked hard and made us proud.
