When Moffat County High School needed a new coach to lead the girls soccer program, it reached out to a familiar face.

Harry Tripp was recently named head coach for the girls varsity soccer team.

Tripp had previously been the Craig U-14 girls soccer coach.

Tripp will replace Nicole Dolence, who took over after Dave Rodriguez resigned.

Richard Wildenhaus, high school athletic director, said bringing in Tripp was a move meant to stabilize the program.

"We've had some change-over the last couple of years, and one of the considerations was that he will be here for the long haul," Wildenhaus said. "We want to start a good tradition, and having the same coach builds camaraderie as he sticks around.

"And, Harry was the best person for the job."

The girls soccer team finished the 2008-09 school year with a record of 1-12-1.

Tripp will inherit a young team, with sophomores making up a large portion of the roster.

His experience with some of the younger players will help with the transition, Wildenhaus said.

"He has been a soccer coach here for a number of years, and he has known the incoming freshmen for a few years," the athletic director said. "He has demonstrated a knowledge and enthusiasm for the game."

Soccer to play in Steamboat today

Moffat County High School boys varsity soccer will resume its rivalry with Steamboat Springs High School today.

At 4 p.m., the Bulldogs will travel to Steamboat Springs for a rematch with the Sailors.

The game will be at Steamboat Springs High School, 45 Maple St.

In the last match-up between the two teams on Sept. 15, Steamboat Springs won, 2-1, at Moffat County.

The Bulldogs are coming off one of their strongest performances to date, however, as the team blasted Palisade High School, 11-2, on Saturday.

CMS basketball to start Saturday

Craig Middle School boys basketball will start its season at 9 a.m. Saturday in Meeker.

The CMS Bulldogs will then play Hayden at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hayden.

The first home game for the Bulldogs is at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 29, when Steamboat Springs Middle School comes to Craig.
