The community is invited to attend a funeral for Kathie Johnson at 10:30 a.m. today at Faith Lutheran Church in Craig.
Johnson, a Craig Community Service Officer, died Oct. 14 in Glenwood Springs.
Her family requests donations be made in Kathie's name to the Humane Society of Moffat County in lieu of flowers. It is the family's belief that Kathie would have been proud to contribute to the welfare of local animals in this way.
Ann Anderson, vice president of the Humane Society of Moffat County, spoke highly of Johnson.
"Kathie Johnson was very dedicated to the Humane Society," Anderson said in a news release. "Every week she would take pictures of the shelter animals and write up descriptions for the newspaper's 'Pet Page.'
"She helped with testing the dogs, transferring animals to other shelters and fostering kittens. She also did hours of research to gather information on building a new shelter for our town and was a staunch supporter of it. Kathie loved those animals. She was a strong person with a very tender heart.
"Not only do we miss Kathie for her hard work and dedication, but for her true love of the ones with no voice."
