The Moffat County Sheriff's Office is investigating an ATV crash reported Sunday morning that claimed the life of Ron Trudel, the cardiopulmonary manager at The Memorial Hospital.

K.C. Hume, of the Sheriff's Office, said the crash appears to be an accident.

Craig Fire/Rescue and The Memorial Hospital EMS responded to a field west of the Moffat County High School track about 9:14 a.m. Sunday. The Sheriff's Office and Craig Police Department were on scene when the Fire Department arrived.

Hume, who is a fire department battalion chief and the Sheriff's Office chief investigator, said Trudel was found dead on arrival. It appeared Trudel's ATV had fallen on top of him, Hume added.

A man walking by the area of Ninth Street reported to dispatch Sunday morning that he saw a four-wheeler that appeared to be unattended. Agencies responded after that initial report.

Trudel, who was raised in Philadelphia, moved to Craig from Billings, Mont., where he worked at St. Vincent Hospital.

He had about 17 years of experience in cardiopulmonary medicine and began working at TMH on April 13.

TMH issued a statement Monday on Trudel's death.

"The TMH family is still in shock and mourning the loss of our friend," TMH officials said in a news release. "As individuals, we are so sad that our work has to go on without him and the laughter and positive vibe he brought to the office every day. As an organization, we lost a tremendous contributor to our management team, and a progressive thinker with a passion for health care.

"Ron had such big dreams for our new hospital, and we will find strength in seeing those dreams through to reality.

"We will miss him terribly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children and all of those who love and miss him."
