Bengals football team victorious against 49ers
Doak Walker third- and fourth-grade league overcomes weather to take home a 18-0 win to finish undefeated season

Capping an undefeated season, the Bengals defeated the 49ers to take home the top spot in Craig Parks and Recreation’s Doak Walker Football third- and fourth-grade league. Playing on Tuesday at Woodbury Sports Complex, the Bengals were able to overcome the weather and a physical 49ers defense for an 18-0 victory to finish the season 7-0.

Hampton Inn & Suites welcomes 1st guests

The new Hampton Inn & Suites, off Cedar Court west of Craig, welcomed its first guests Wednesday night after a ribbon cutting ceremony that afternoon. A year after ground was broken on the project, hotel managers, employees and Craig Chamber of Commerce ambassadors joined in for the ceremony, which marked the hotel’s official opening. A grand opening party for the public will take place Nov. 20.

A Craig Police Department officer was found dead Wednesday in Glenwood Springs, a Garfield County deputy coroner said.

Kathie Johnson, a police department community service officer and wife of former police detective Ken Johnson, was found Wednesday afternoon in her room at the Hotel Colorado.

Cardinals, Steelers face off in Doak Walker championship

For the second time in 2009, the Steelers will face the Cardinals with the championship on the line. At 5:15 p.m. today at Woodbury Sports Complex, the Craig Parks and Recreation Doak Walker Football championships conclude, with a pair of 5-1 teams facing off for the chance to be called the best.

didn’t want to get another dog. In fact, I was adamant about it. We’ve had a checkered history with the canine set. I blame it on my side of the family tree. When I was little, we had an English setter named Candy that my dad kept in a kennel in the country and used primarily for quail hunting.
